Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Division Md. Mr. Mohammad Abdullah, Deputy Commissioner of Noakhali district Mr. Bodore Munir Ferdaus and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Hatiya upazila visited DUS headquarter recently on 1st December, 2015. They participated in a workshop on ‘Salt Resistant Cropping in Hatia Island’ organized by DUS with the support of ADRRN. After that they visited DUS campus and get informed about DUS interventions in area of Livelihood, DRR and Health & Nutrition. They witnessed organic and salt tolerant crop production, integrated fish cultivation, DRR activities through community radio ‘Radio Sagardwip’ practiced by DUS. They expressed their wonder and praised DUS activities on developing the standard of living of island people. Divisional Commissioner commented, these activities should be replicated throughout the region to ensure food security along with reducing poverty and vulnerability of the communities. He also hoped, DUS will extend its catchment area in future so that the benefits can reach to a larger number of people. The Commissioner participated a live program with Radio Sagardwip on the issue of future possibility of development of Hatiya island. He emphasized on the active coordination and cooperation among G.O and NGOs to strengthen the disaster mitigation activities in coming days.
